Hi all! I have a very frugal alternative to vinyl--shelf and drawer vinyl that I picked up from Dollar Tree. I used it to personalize my baby bug--and yes it is removable--but sticks great! it's wonderful!
Enjoy! If you enjoy, leave a comment, it brightens my day!
Okay I'm a teacher, my boys love to read, and I LOVE LOVE owls--even my craft room is decorated with them! So I tire of the traditional normal school stuff, so last night I made this sweet little owl, huddling on a branch, asking... "Whoooo's Ready for School"! I'd love to get this in a scrapbook page or card as a teacher, and my boys teachers will be receiving this cutie on a card for sure!

Well even if I couldn't make it to CHA, atleast one of my projects did! HOO-ray!
LEAVE ME A COMMENT--I'll give ONE follower who comments this Upcoming Queen of Hearts New Release FREE on August 2'nd!
Hi everyone! I just finished a new file called The Queen of Hearts--that I've been working on a few days. From start to finish I probably average about 6-10+ hours on my files. I know it seems like alot of time, and I just want to be honest to tell you--I don't want anyone to think it's magic. I don't think any process is--it just takes a bit of time to learn, and time to do anything.
I do not autotrace, but draw each one of my designs from start to finish. Here is the process. It's too long to show on video, so I must screenshot it.
I want to show you what an autotrace of my drawing would like look after breaking apart the TONS of pieces. This is why I never autotrace my drawings. Way too many weird little pieces.
Here is what my actual INKSCAPE drawn queen looks like if I made her a digital image, like a coloring page, and then auto-traced. Which would really be sad if you were the one who took all that time to draw with a pen tool! You can still see though even though it's a bit better--it still has weird shapes--and pieces are "bit" out. lik the sleeve is broken into 4 pieces--4 weird pieces--whereas when you draw it is ONE piece. The hat is broken into 5 or 6 pieces, when it should only be 2at the most--and one half of the brim is soo thin it wouldn't cut nicely. The face is completed horrid--it's on the way right and looks like two spots are in the middle of it! The dress is also chopped into several pieces with aheart out of the middle--whereas when you draw the dress with your bezier tool it is ONE complete piece.
Tip--for a paper piecing--each piece must be SEPERATE--the hands, the boots, the hat (the inside of the hat, the outside base and the brim (each piece that you want a different color), the train of the dress, the sash, the bodice, the trim, the heart appliques, the head, the hair, etc. I know I may be over-explaining paper-piecing, but there may be some very new ones to paper piecing.
1'st-I draw a quick sketch of the character I choose to create ( you may not need to do this--you may have it in your mind--but when working with pieces, I like to mentally break it down and then put it on paper--as I can get distracted.... (Lord knows how with 2 boys, a dog, a cat, and my scatter-brained mind! I naturally love to draw! Now--as you can see, your quick sketch will be different than your end cutting file--as your pieces in a cutting file need to be larger and less detailed
3'rd-I began drawing in my program, Inkscape. I use my Bezier tool to draw with. If you use another program, it should also have a "pen" or bezier tool.
4'th-After each piece of drawing, I use my edit paths tool to make each part just the right shape and with as little nodes as possible. This make take several hours for the entire file. However, the less nodes--the smoother your piece will cut.
TIP-why is it important to draw each piece? Because you want each piece to layer under or on top. If you have her face--it is a whole piece with neck. This allows me to layer her dress and collar on her neck and her hair on her face. If I didn't draw each whole piece--it would be hard to piece it together nicely.
5'th-I then weld any pieces together that need to be joined by doing PATH--UNION on the pieces I want joined.
6'th-I then begin the entire process for EACH part of the piecing
I hope this helps everyone. It took me about a year to get really comfortable with drawing in my program, but it yields a super high quality compared to auto tracing, and it's original.
I've been creating files for 3 years now professionally. I hope this tut helps you and inspires you to draw your own files.
Hi everyone--I spent part of last night filming a video tut for cutting balsa--well it was a failed attempt! Balsa wood will NOT cut in the cricut even with deep blade housing. It cut in my pazzles and on my friend's knk, but no dice on the cricut!
Just wanted to let you all know--
I'll be back today with another tutorial!
QUICK NOTE: I've had a couple of people to ask me to explain how I draw in Inkscape--the answer--VERY tediously! there is no magic way--it takes me anywhere from 6-8 hours to draw an original design if using Inkscape by using the bezier tool and then using the edit path button. It would literally take me hours to show you a file from start to finish. So my next tutorial will
be screenshots to show you how to draw in Inkscape!
Hi ya'll! I have a quick tutorial for you today showing you how to take a file you've created in SCAL and make it into a shaped book! I used my Sandcastle file here--I did add a ribbon tie--but wasn't needed-it's just for decoration! The book folds out from both sides like a gate!
Scroll down for some important screenshots from SCAL--giving you the steps to make the base/pages for your shaped book.
If you like my sandcastle file, I'd love for you to buy and it support my postage obsession--mailing out lots of goodies to all my blog readers! Just click here to grab it!
I opened my file and selected ONLY the yellow layer--as the yellow layer has the pieces I need to use to create my base and pages.
I then deleted all but the two pieces I needed--and then I did Object--break apart--to remove all the windows
I then copied and pasted the left side of the castle--and then used my shape library to create a retangle in the middle-I measured these carefully.
I then "welded" these pieces together--using Path--union--now I have the base for my book! To make the pages, simply make the base about 4-6 times and then cut in half!
Hi everyone! The winner for the cricut cart is #59 JuneBug.
JUNEBUG you have exactly one week to email me at kristalstamper@yahoo.com with your mailing address so I can get this right out to you!
I'll be mailing ALL packages from the last week and half all out on 8/1! So if you have won anything in the last week and a half (while I've been on holiday), then it will be mailed out on 8/1 if you sent me an email, and I'll be emaling you 8/1 to let you know it's went postal!
Hi ya'll! I'm back with another video tutorial--I have a cold so I'm a bit off! With this tutorial, I'll show you what a traditional paper piecing looks like, how to get the layers without crazy tiny pieces, and how to add detail to your piecings when you don't want to cut and glue small pieces on.
Scroll down below the video--to see how to draw using Inkscape and how to make the lines you have drawn neat and cut nicely.
If you want a nice paper piecing, either purchase one from a professional designer or draw one yourself using your bezier tool. This will enable you to have full pieces to layer on top. This ensures a nice piecing, without million of teeny tiny weird pieces that you must fit togehter like a jigsaw puzzle.
This is your edit path tool--this allows
you to bend and stretch the paths (nodes) you have just drawn, to make
it smooth and nice. You want to make
sure that your paths are smooth and few so that your paper piecing cuts
like butter--like a real diecut--no jagged lines!
Once you play with these features,
you will have nicely drawn paper piecings that layer one on top of each
other.
Make sure you draw each piece
seperately, and make them the coordinating colors.
In SCAL2, I open my flamingo file
and hide all other color layers, but
leave only the hot pink wing sections
that I want to doodle on with my magenta pink glitter gel pen (cri-kit gel pen) using my pen holder in my cricut. Once I have doodled this section, then I will put in my black gel pen and draw
the eye for the flamingo on the pink
cardstock.
Now I leave my pink cardstock paper
in my cricut that I just doodle on, but now I switch out the pen holder for my
blade housing--and then only select this pink layer that I want to cut. Press cut and voila! It has cut the flamingo out with your hot pink feather doodles
and black eye doodles.
Now all you do is take your gelpens in the same color you used, and color in the outlines to leave the eye and wing ruffles a solid gorgeous metallic glitter pink. This magenta glitter cri-kit gel pen I used reminds me very much of the Copic Spica glitter pens!
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and I'll be back with a new one soon! If you like the flamingo file and you want to grab it from me, just click here. Remember if you do grab it, don't forget to get the free sandcastle file too! I've already done all the color layers in SCAL2 for you--so it will be very easy to doodle and cut. I do suggest cutting the flamingo at 5"--because he is so skinny--he will stillwork great on a card--but especially great on a scrapbook layout!
Leave me a comment and I'll choose a follower to receive this file free!
Hi everyone! I just found out today thanks to a blog reader, that the special offer wasn't taking off the price of the sandcastle! If you order 3.00 or more, it now gives you the sandcastle free! THANK you to Trina, for letting us know!

Hi everyone! Quick WOW post tonight! I just found out that two companies have chosen content and samples of my projects to be featured at their CHA booth! I simply opened up my email, and voila! I've never been to CHA or will I be able to attend this year. This year Summer CHA is in IL, and I'll be busy here in FL readying my two sweet boys for school!
So if you happen to have the awesome luxury of going to CHA, stop by and see some of my samples/blog content at these booths: CRI-Kit and Sulyn Industries!
You never know, maybe some of your projects will be at a CHA booth too! Wouldn't that be exciting to stumble upon one of your projects or samples from your blog! I didn't even apply or know that being shown at CHA was even a possiblity! If any of you attend, take a pic and send it to me!
Much love to each one of you-my artsy companions!
Hi everyone! I have a quick project for you today--so easy peasy and fun! I drew these two bird sillouhettes tonight--to use with a quote by Langston Hughes. "Hold fast to your dreams, without them, life is a broken wing bird that cannot fly".
I wanted the birds to have a time-period feel of the 20's, so I drew them in sillouhettes, and added a top hat for the male wren and bow for the female quail. I used Inkscape and Scal2 to create. I used a font to doodle the scripted quote on the birds and heart--and used my cricut to cut the paper piecings out...all using SCAL. I used a silver metallic gel pen from Cri-kits to doodle my scripted quote...which I think turned out absolutely beautiful. If you have never used the pens in combintation with your cricut please check out my Video called Doodling with Your Cricut. It's quite easy to combine pen details with your diecuts using the cricut!
I'm posting the FREE svg & scal2 file for you to grab. Please make sure to leave me a comment or thank you if you enjoyed my file. It makes my day!
I'd love it if you would follow my blog--I promise if you follow me, I'll follow you! Just make sure your blog is listed under your blog profile, or you leave it in the comment section for me.
I hand draw each one of my files to ensure a high quality cut. I do not trace any of my work--so there are no weird tiny pieces. This takes a great deal of time to draw, reduce nodes, and convert. Please respect my tous in the file when you download. Thank you and enjoy your day getting creative with your hands and cricut!
The winner for the CRI-KIT pens and pen holder is #32 Teela
I also just had so many great entries that I ran to the LSS and grabbed a pack of the Swirl Pens to give away too--and that winner is #42 Lady Trucker
Teela and Lady Trucker please email me at kristalstamper@yahoo.com with your mailing address and I'll get these right out to you--as soon as I return home next week.

this sandcastle was totally missing sand--so I created some, aptly named Scrappy Sand! In this video tutorial, I show you how I applied the sand and give you the ingredients--so you can make your own scrapbooking sand!
I used Sparkle 21 glitter glue (because it sticks to anything) by Sulyn, and some sand, and a few other things--I'll post the recipe soon then place in--anything airtight! Enjoy!
If you try this, I'd love to see it!
****Please note--this is a copyrighted invention by me--so you may use this personally, but not make to sell*****

HI yall! Here are some adorable saltwater taffy embellishments I created. I can't wait to put these in my mouth, I mean, scrapbook pages!! They look good enough to eat but safe for scrapbooks & cards! I made these to go with my trip to Savannah Georgia's Candy Factory--where they make saltwater taffy the old fashioned way! My son loved watching the machine chop the taffy and wrap it up--but we both loved eating the falling taffy! If you are ever in Savannah, walk down River's Street and visit the Savannah Candy Factory--you will be SO glad you did!
Below is the link to purchase these cute digital taffy labels for $1.00 in all colors--all you have to do is print, and wrap!
Here is my video tutorial showing you how to make your very own saltwater taffy embellishments! Enjoy! If you enjoyed this tutorial, please leave me a comment and become a follower--I'll promise to follow you too--if you leave me the link! I'll also CHOOSE TWO followers to receive the Saltwater Taffy Labels (printed or digital stamp file) FREE on July 13'th!
Look what one of my blog followers and friends sent to me! My own custom avatar--she watched one of my videos and drew this for me! hahah! It's so great! I love it! I asked her did she sell these--she said yes! She makes custom drawings based on her customer's request! I love how mine has scissors and pen since I love to draw and paper piece--and I'm sitting on books--being the teacher I am!
The girl who drew this is super talented--her name is CJ and she owns Cow-Girl Up. Here is the link to her blog and website if you are interested in having a custom avatar made for your blog---her prices are insanely reasonable.
Thanks CJ for being such a sweetie and sending me an avatar--I love it!
Hi yall! I'm back today with a quick review and tutorial. I was visiting Lake City about 2 weeks ago. It is about 1.5 hrs from my home in Jacksonville, FL. They have the CUTEST scrapbook store called Scrappy Papers! On their blog, it says Home away from Home, and they are not joking--it has the most amazing homey feel--like cheers--when I saw people walk in, the people in the back would call out to them, hey marsha, how ya been doing? What are you working on? Just a Mayberry feel! If you are ever in the Lake City area, please hop over and see them. You will be thrilled that you did! It's like visiting the local mercantile of scrapbool stores!
It looks like a small store in a brickfront building--but when you enter--it's like stepping into the pages of Country Sampler. It has the most charm--a bench in the front foyer--which my son decided to lay down on towards the end of the trip, as he was tired (tired from scrapbook shopping). He also found the wagon full of scrapbook supplies charming! The last time we were there, he enjoyed the company of the owner's very small dog--who was absolutely better behaved than most people!
The owner, Gail I believe is her name, has to be one of the nicest people--she is always conducting classes in the back of the store--every time I've went it happened to be a Cricut class! She never lets you leave her store without a nice compliment and genuinely warm feeling.
The store is just FILLED to the BRIM with new products. This is where I found the Secret Keeper by Boxer Scrapbooks. I picked two up and here is what I made. I think my boys with love the novelty of the keys and working lock (great touch there by Boxer).
For ease of use I give this a 6 out of 10, as there were no directions with it.
Charm a 9 out of 10 and price 9 out of 10.
If you are interested---here is the website printed on the package: http://www.boxerscrapbooks.com/
Above is the picture of how I used the secret keeper and a short tutorial on using it.
If you like it and would be interested in trying it, make sure you leave me a comment with how you would use it (you have to be a follower to win).
I'll also give a follower a couple of paperbag albums. If you haven't tried these and would like one, just leave me a comment letting me know you'd like to try those out.

So in honor of this story (which I do ALOT), this Lil Firecracker layout is perfect for my brilliant adventuresome boys!

I also made a mini album featuring my Flag Book, for my mother who absolutely LOVES coffee table albums full of pictures of her grand-kids. She loves to decorate for the season so this will stay out on the table till Labor Day, then it will go on her shelf of shaped books I've made for her. Enjoy!

I have tried out the SNR Magazine, Scrapbook News & Reviews. It's a huge site that is filled to the brim with all sorts of scrapbooking articles. It is an online magazine that focuses on cards, scarpbooks, and mixed media. I was excited to log on to see what it was like. Here is my experience.
First of all, I had a hard time maneuvering inside of the magazine. It takes a bit of time to figure out how it is set up. It is not a traditional online magazine. It does not go by page numbers. It goes by sections--but each section is part of a bigger one. It's almost like a BIG site full of articles and ideas--and you have to do a bit of digging around.
It is however filled to the brim with layout ideas, tips, and articles about digital art, traditional scrapbooking, card making, and mixed media. It is a sister to SNR Universe.
The magazine is broken into sections: Photography, Current Calls (you can submit your artwork for publication), scrapbook articles, page sketches, digital delights--the list goes on and on. I think I was sucked in for several hours!
If you like reading online articles and being part of a magazine, this one is for you. If you like a traditional magazine, or fatigue easily reading online, this is not. It has over 400 layoutss contributed per month.
So if you like reading online--and want a great online magazine that covers all the bases, try them out. it is 4.99 per month. I have a hard time sitting for hours in one spot--so I will check this periodically--but do not think I could read it religiously.

Quick Post--a layout I made yesterday to showcase my young son and niece--I used Berry Sweet--a paper piecing set, and of course jammed it to the brim--my kids absolutely love a full page--they loved picking out and noticing small details....they remind me very much of their mother! lol
If you like this set, leave me a comment--I'll choose a follower to give it to on the 6'th.
Now onto the next review!
