Simply Sunday Challenge: Let's Get Campy--Giveaways too!!!

***UPDATE--challenge has been extended till 5/7****
Campin Critters Cartridge: Prize for Challenge!!

Hi everyone! How are you today? Are you having a FABULOUS and SIMPLE Sunday? I so hope you are! Sundays are a wonderful day to rejuvenate our spirits and body from the long hectic week! Ever notice the best things happen on a Sunday? Church, football, sales, festivals, family time....
OOPS! I almost forgot to announce the winner of the Inspired Heart challenge! The winner is #35 KATE!!!
Here is her adorable card--and her post was very touching. You have one week to contact me Kate so I can get with you about your Guest Design spot, blinkie, and your Cricut Inspired Heart Cartridge!!!

I want to start this challenge off by thanking each of you for coming to my blog, reading my posts, emailing me, leaving me a comment, and just being amazing bloggie friends. I appreciate you and value each comment, each blinkie you post, and each email! Thank you!
Who's ready to get campy and win the new Campin' Critters cartridge? I finally bought a duplicate one of these and wanted to share it with you--isn't it just the cutest!!??!
I chose the Let's Get Campy! theme because as many of you know, last month I was on a long road trip in my RV and we camped alot. We left everything behind, packed up our RV with just needed things, and began our move across country. It was truly the best thing that could have ever happened to me in my life. I realized all the "things", the huge house, the gorgeous yard...none of it mattered. I gave away 90% of my things cheerfully, praying with each item that it would bless someone who needed it.
I then climbed aboard a 42 ft fifth wheel with just my family and left everything none behind to move where the NAVY sent us! Being in this RV with my family has been the greatest experience I've ever had. I don't worry about things anymore. When your walk in closet is shared with your hubby--you only choose things you need and will actually wear.
Laundry? It's simple when you only have two small hang up hampers. When the hampers are full, I hop on my bicycle and go do 3 load of laundry at the laundromat. I'm done in 80 minutes tops. I play with my son at the playground across the road in between the wash and dry cycle. Then we bicycle back home just down the lane.
I don't have much to clean. You can't accumulate alot or throw down anything in an RV. You pick up as you take out. Dishes? pfft. Not a big deal when you only have 15. You wash them at night, and put them away the next morning, taking an entire 10 minutes top!
Family time is awesome--we are always together. We have one TV. i don't watch it, but my hubby will have to SHARE it with the boys, and it only goes on when someone NEEDS to watch something. Otherwise we are outside. When it's night-time for the kids, it's night-time for almost everyone. You can't watch TV when the kids bunks are right above it!
So instead we sit around the campfire and tell stories. The stories I WANT my kids to hear. Not what the media wants to tell them. We laugh, roast marshmallows, and spin yarns. It's fabulous.
Bored? never. Bicycle, fish, and playground...that's my life these days.
It's the best decision I've ever made. My life is simple and it's about my family.
This blog is my fun ministry...reaching and communicating with other souls thru creating. Art heals the soul.
I dont' make money off my blog, or feel that I HAVE to blog, force others to do anything, because it's just for fun. Will the world stop if K Andrew doesn't post? NAH...never in a million years.
So yeah, its the little fun part of Kristal's day. The time of the day she gets to share her love of God, Art, creating, and friends.
So the next time you feel stressed out--think about camping. It's amazing, it's refreshing, and the media world will not miss you a bit...if it does, it's waiting for you when you return home.
Make a choice today--to relish the most important people in your life--the ones that are right in front of you, the ones you share your home with. Those are the people you should focus on, and throw your love on. Chose to get "campy" leaving all else behind, and cherish the simple time you can spent with your favorite people!
Who's ready to get CAMPY? REMEMBER it doesn't need to take you a long time to make a card, tag, layout, or other project. Keeping it simple is the key ingredient for my projects lately--and Im loving it!
My little one Jonas LOVES Bigfoot. None of us are sure why! He just absolutely does! So this card is for him, and he has just been such an awesome boy helping me run the cat down when he escapes, picking up his clothes, helping me cook, remembering to keep my tablet charged up, and just generally is my biggest fan (okay who doesn't love a 5 year old who thinks you are the most amazing person in the world???!)

  1. I LOVE to go camping...whether it's in our trailer or when we used to go tent camping. I would always cook over the fire...and if it was raining, my hubby would stay in the tent, peek out and say, "Is breakfast ready yet?"

  2. Hmmm, I will have to think of a project.

My mother is a retired school teacher and my father is a retired principal. We had everything we needed growing up, but not much extra. My parents did own a camper. We went on many a camping trip growing up. My sister and her family have a camper now. At least 3 times every summer we all go camping. It is usually my sister, her husband, their 4 kids, my mom and dad, and the two of us. Many times my brother-in-laws sister and her family join us. We have so much fun. Four adults and 2 dogs is very tight in a camper. I can't wait until my husband and I can afford one of our own.

  4. As some of you have heard or were in NC yesterday, you are aware of the tornadoes that hit us in the Sanford, Raleigh, Bragg, Fayetteville area. Our power went out for 22 hours... Oh yes we had to come up with something to light up the house and to have dinner last night and breakfast this morning. So we used my husband's chemlights from work (thank you US Army)for lighting... our grill for dinner, finally got to use our cast iron skillets the real way lol... then again for breakfast I will be posting pictures on my blog but for now they're on my FB page lol. WE had a great time, even gave us the opportunity to plant our garden finally since it will be our last one in NC since we will be moving to Hawaii for three years this summer!.... yay!!

  5. You've found exactly what I love about camping. Doesn't matter where, when, or why, but it just brings me to the simple joys of life. I love it! So glad you could experience it also.

  7. I cannot wait until my camping season begins!!! (May 13th) Woohoo. There is nothing better than sitting around a campfire with the family. Smores is the soul purpose of camping isn't it? My 15 year old son is staring to pull away from our camping trips. So I would have to say I am thankful for all the times we have already shared. It is nice to be together and actually do stuff together. When we are together at home we are busy doing our own things. Camping truly brings us together.

  8. Love the camping projects as my family loves to go on camping outings. Unfortunately we were not able to make it due to other commitments last year so we are looking forward to it this year. One of the things we do each year is volunteer as a family to work at a girl scout camp for the parent/daughter weekend. It is a blast to see the girls bond with their parent (either Mom or Dad) without any "electronic" interuptions and it is even better since we do it together as a family.

Thanks for sharing your creativity with us!

  9. I LOVE camping! We have been camping for about 5 years now and everytime we go somewhere we have a new adventure, even if we are going back to the same spot.
One of our best memories of camping is the trip we took for christmas 3 years ago. We drove over night and told our kiddos we were just going to SC. When they woke the next morning we were in Disney...the happiest place on earth! We had been there before with them so they were familiar with the campground. We had them go outside and try to figure out where we were. Disney has tons of clues...hidden mickeys on the road, sidewalks, mickeys on the lightposts, mickeys on the garbage cans. It took them alittle while but they did figure it out and when they did their faces were so worth it!
there is nothing better than having the TV,computers, phones turned off and just be able to enjoy eachother company and nature!
Thanks for all you do in the blogging world!

  10. My family used to go camping and boating a lot when I was growing up. My funniest memory was the night the raccoons got into our cooler and ate the eggs and then the next morning our boat that was pulled up on the bank when we went to bed was under water! It had sunk and our life jackets and everything else was floating. It was really a funny site with the mess from the raccoons and the boat all together. Thanks for the chance!

  11. We don't camp, but I did when I was growing up and really enjoyed it. Now a mountain lion has been spotted where we used to camp, so that is a bit scary to think of what could happen. For our "camping out" I do just what you mentioned in your post-turn off the TV and sit down with my two little boys and do what they want to do! Sometimes it is them making a monkey pile out of me and sometimes it is reading a story, but whatever it is, we are always similing and we forget about everything else in the world at that time.
Thank you for sharing the story of your journey with us!

  12. I agree with your son -- you are an amazing person. Thanks for making the blogging world fun and loving by sharing God's love in your life.

Out most recent "camping" experience was spending the day walking around the lake and watching the fish and geese at our near by park.

  13. just a couple years ago my boyfriend and i were watching a movie, when all of a sudden, the power went out (a light-pole next to our house caught on fire!).. we were so bummed that we couldn't watch the rest of our movie.. but we ended up playing scrabble and having a glass of wine by candlelight.. it was super fun (and romantic!).. i hope to link up a project soon! :)

  14. Honestly, my camping experiences have been dismal. They were school and summer camps where 8 or so girls were in a lodge or lean-to. In one case, I ended up getting violently sick the 2nd day and in another, I got along SO well with my bunkmates that they threw all of my things out into the dirt. I'm sure I'd like "real" camping but just have never wanted to try "camping" again.

  15. OMG! This is right up my alley....I love everything to do about camping and it played a very big part in my life growing up. Singing around the camp fire would be my #1 thing to do and then my list would include 100 other fun things. I am off to create and then create some more because as always I really need to win this cartridge, just like everyone else that enters the challenge! LOL! Have a wonderful week!

  16. We love camping also and will be starting our season on May 13th also when we go to Lake Placid. It is just my husband, myself and our Golden Retriever (she is the reason we got our fifth wheel--neither of us liked the idea of leaving her in a kennel). We have all the conveniences of home, but, being away and being able to be outside and not have all the pressures of getting things done around the house just makes it so relaxing and enjoyable. I am anxiously awaiting the start of our season. We camp until mid October and then I am so sad to have to it all away for the winter. patnbobcuddy at gmail dot com

  17. I'm not a big camper myself, but all your stories are definitely inspiring me to give in and try it like my husband begs for! Luckily, our boys love doing anything we can as a family so on our days off together, we are 100% focused on them and our time together, no matter where we are!!

  18. My campy experience was my recent home purge. We have a small 2 bedroom townhome and it was overflowing with unnecessary stuff! I had a mild breakdown not too long ago and took 3 months off work to work things out. First on my list.....purge everything we haven't used or needed in the past 6 months. After 4 weeks of purging and literally 50+ supersized trashbags hauled to goodwill, I felt amazingly better. We still have a lot to do, but it was a great first step.

  19. Oh, this brings back fond memories. Although I did not sleep under the stars, my family went to a fishing 'camp' every year for vacation. Pop put the boat in for his and mom's daily trolling for fish. My sister and I swam in the lake and water skied (sp?) and went tubing. We stayed in a one room cabin. It was equipped with an apartment stove (2 burner), small frig, dishwashing sink and a tiny, tiny bathroom. The bathroom was only big enough for a commode, a shower stall and a small sink. There were two roll away beds for sleeping. Since all 40 members of my family went on vacation together we shared our meals on the porch every day at noon. It was tons of fun and a great place a kiddos to experience nature. No TV, no phone (except at the office) and lots of conversation and 31 (a beloved family card game). Lots of love and fun were shared on our vacations.

  21. Some of our fondest memories are from the years we spent camping. We hiked, backpacked, tented and trailered. All modes brought us fun stories to remember. As our daughters became teens they use to have a fit because they could't bring their curling irons and hairdryers! We have a fire pit in our backyard now and all the neighbor kids look forward to the Smore's parties we give. Nothing like the smell of smoke in your hair!

  22. We love to go camping. We have an "old" winnebago but she gets us there and brings us home. LOL. When we can't get away for the whole weekend we do have a firepit inthe backyard and listen to the nature sounds and tell stories.
Great job on your card. Its awesome and he will love it

  23. Wow your post is so inspiring! Spending time with the family is the most important thing that one can do. I remember growing up our family vacation was to go camping for 2 weeks. We had a blast! We played in the creek, took nature walks, and told stories late at night around the fire. I do have to say that some of my best childhood moments were spent camping with my family. I have just recently moved back to TX where I hope to continue these camping trips with my boys and my hubby.

  25. My last camping experience was when I was 10. We had gone to a camp that had a staircase of 100 steps. I had my younger sister (7) with me and she tripped and fell down the entire flight. Was I scared!!! By a miracle she walked away from it. Not less than 10 minutes later she fell over the ax my dad left by the picnic table when he came running. That was enough for me. I was done camping. Thankfully my boys don't have the same attitude. They LOVE camping with the scouts! http://visionsofpaper.blogspot.com/

Id like to share about when I was a Girl Guide and went camping...and it rained...and I cried so much because I missed my mum (I was 13yrs old lol) that the leader drove to the nearest town and called my Mum to come and get me lol!

It just means that going "campy" for me is being home with my family...I dont do dirt well when mixed with rain lol!

  29. Hi Kristal!
As a teenager and in my early 20's , I loved camping....it was so much FUN! I live in Hawaii so, we camped on the beach. Every summer my youth group at my church would go camping at different beach locations. We really roughed it at times....pitching tents, cooking on the fire and bathing in the cold water beach showers. Looking back....We always had a great time. My favorite time was sitting on the beach just before sunrise while having my devotions with God. It was very beautiful...praying to god, seeing and hearing the waves crashing on shore....not to mention the rising sun...amazing!!! Thank you Kristal for allowing me to share my camping experience, and for always sharing your wonderful inspirations! Have a awesome week! 8)

I have many camping experiences from when I was a child, from setting up the tent in the backyard and roasting marshmallows to staying in a small camper on the hill behind our house and hiking through the woods. Such great family memories. Thanks for the help with reminiscing.

  31. My family and I LOVE to take out the RV. Our latest trip was the BEST ever. We went to Stone Mountain, GA. My favorite parts of the trip was watching my 6 and 4 yr old playing in piles of leaves and this one particular night that we were around the campfire telling stories. It was so cute to hear them make up stories about their toys. I'm definitely going to try to enter this challenge. Perhaps a layout....i have beautiful photos from our trip.

We live in Northern California, and yesterday we drove 2 1/2 hours to go to the beach, play in the sand, make sand angels, and sit by a campfire for a couple hours, then return home! :) It was a great day!!

  38. Camping? Well...usually it rains and when I say rains I mean it pours! Last time we had to drive to a Canadian Tire and buy traps just to keep our tent from leaking anymore. So glad that this move has been a positive one for you and your family.

Your post really did have and continues to have a significant impact on me.
Your Big Foot card is adorable! I love that the Cricut helps us create just the right thing for those we love and care about.
As for camping, my absolute most favourite thing to do in this world is go camping with my family. All the worries and rushes of this world are left behind and it's just time to spend with each other and focus on building our relationships. We have a little tent trailer and camping is just what we do each summer!

  43. Hi Kristal!
Your blog has got to be the most inspiring blog I've ever read! You have such a way with words and your love for the Lord and family is wonderful!
Wow, camping has always been my most favorite thing to do my whole life!!! My parents took my 3 younger brothers and I camping from the time we could walk. I luckily married a man who enjoyed camping as well. We camped all the time even as our family grew (5 children). We've camped in everything from a small tent to a travel trailer! When my children grew and married, they all camped!! When my children moved to different states, I came up with the idea of having a camping, family reunion. Every year for 7 years in a row on Labor Day Weekend we would meet at a campground that one family would choose. We would get 6 campsites together (all 26 of us). We had a daughter in SC, a son in Kentucky, a son in Tennessee and the rest of us in Ohio!! Most of the time we camped in WV. Pretty much centrally located. Two years ago we weren't able to do it with all of us because my youngest son moved to TX.
I will cherish every single memory I have and how close my family is.

  44. The design team projects are just fabulous! Camping was our family activity as far back as I can remember. We started in a borrowed tent, purchased a two room one, then a pop-up camper and then a pull-behind camper. We camped almost every weekend during the summers. I have so many great memories of our family trips. I vaguely remember my sister and I always fighting, and my Dad threatening to never take us anywhere again, but the next weekend would roll around and all was forgotten as we would hit the road again. Last year, my parents bought an RV - they call it their "vacation home" - so they can travel and when they retire :)

  52. YEAH for the extension! I just couldn't get it finished by Saturday so thanks!!!! This was so fun! I really enjoyed making my layout! We LOVE camping! My favorite experience though was when I was in college and we drove an RV to PA to go white water rafting. I think we stuffed 12 people in it! So fun though!

  54. <3 your story.. Making changes in life can sometimes be so very scary but when they pay off in a postive way for us and our families it's just awesome. I've got a few projects in mind, hopefully I can get a few worked on in the next few days. <3 to camp!!! We sold our 4 wheelers after the move and boy do we miss them. We camped at least once a month while we had them. I'll never forget all the fun we had with no phones, no tvs, no video games, or anything else. It was just Mike, the boys, and I out in the middle of nowhere. tear, tear, tear... Guess I better get crafty for a chance to win. crystalelliott06@gmail.com

  56. Hi Kristal, I loved this challenge and I loved reading about the joys of the simple life. This year, I tried to impress upon my 3rd grade CCD students the difference between "wants" and "needs". They understood the concept, but so many of them still wanted big ticket items under their Christmas tree or for birthdays. It's really difficult to get the message across when we live in such an age of commercialism.

My parents bought a camp in a remote area of northern Maine a few years ago. The past two summers have been wonderful with vacations spent there. Water from a well, outhouses, solar power, no TVs or video games...but lots of time playing cards, games, reading, walking, hiking, swimming, canoeing, fishing, wildlife watching. And such a quiet calm. I love those times...and I know my kids love them too. :-) It's perfect for bringing a family closer together.

    Have a great weekend,
    Sharon C.

  58. Woot-woot!! I'm so excited that I was able to enter this challenge!! Thank you sooooooo much for fixing the link!! I am not a camping person, but when you said 'fishing'... Oh, that's what I thought of!! I don't know any kids who don't like to fish (and they all seem to be very quiet when they're fishing!!)...

Now, even though I'm not a camping person, this cartridge has been on my wish list since the Hello Thursday it was introduced for!! And ya know why??? That AWESOME Bigfoot that you used!! Since I first saw him, I knew this cartridge would have a good home with me... But, alas, it hasn't found it's way here yet -- Even though I've found MANY more images on that cart that I love, love, LOVE!! :) So I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that I win -- But if I don't, I think it will still have a very good home -- Did ya see what everyone created??? :)

Thanks for the FUN challenge and the chance to win!! :)

  60. We went from a tent to a pop up many yrs ago. I like camping. I probably appreciate it more after hearing some horror stories of hotels, etc and bugs. Good family bonding time. Love listening to the rain falling on the roof. Great memories with family and friends.
